Can a Broken Dryer Heating Element Be Repaired?

If your clothes dryer is not heating up, a broken heating element is likely the culprit. Fortunately, replacing a heating element isn’t a terribly difficult job. You can usually find a replacement heating element at a local hardware store or online by searching for your dryer model number.

Preparing for the Repair

Before you begin, make sure to unplug the dryer from the power outlet. This is a crucial safety step to prevent any electrical shocks. Next, remove the back panel of the dryer to access the heating element. You may need to remove some screws or bolts to detach the panel.

Removing the Old Heating Element

Once you have access to the heating element, disconnect the wires and remove any screws or clips holding it in place. Be careful when handling the old element, as it may still be hot. Dispose of the old element properly.

Installing the New Heating Element

Take the replacement heating element and align it with the mounting brackets or clips inside the dryer. Secure it in place with any screws or clips provided. Reconnect the wires to the element, making sure they are securely fastened.

After the new element is installed, replace the back panel of the dryer and secure it with the screws or bolts. Plug the dryer back into the power outlet and test it out by running a load of clothes.
