Can You Reverse Shoe Creasing? Here’s How to Remove Stubborn Wrinkles

Shoe creasing is an inevitable part of wearing your favorite footwear, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with unsightly wrinkles forever. With a few simple techniques and some household items, you can reverse the creasing process and restore your shoes to their former glory. In this article, we’ll explore the steps to remove even the most stubborn creases from your leather, suede, and canvas shoes.

Stuffing and Soaking

The first step in reversing shoe creasing is to stuff the interior of the shoe with socks, old clothes, or tissue paper until the crease is no longer visible. This helps maintain the shoe’s shape while you work on removing the wrinkle. Once the shoe is properly stuffed, soak the fabric with hot water. This will help soften the material and make it more pliable for the next step.

Heating and Smoothing

After soaking the shoe, place a damp cloth over the crease. Use a hot iron or a hair dryer set to a low setting to gently heat the cloth. Be careful not to hold the heat source too close to the shoe, as this can damage the material. Once the cloth is warm, use your fingers to smooth out the crease, pressing firmly against the stuffed interior. Repeat this process until the wrinkle is gone.

Alternatively, you can use a shoe stretching spray to make the leather more pliable before smoothing out the crease. Simply spray the inside and outside of the shoe, focusing on the creased areas, and then insert a shoe tree or stretcher to maintain the shape while you smooth out the wrinkle.

Remember to always use a shoe tree or stretcher after wearing your shoes to minimize future creasing and maintain their shape. With a little time and effort, you can keep your favorite shoes looking fresh and wrinkle-free for years to come.
