Do You Need a Fishing License in Arizona in 2024?

If you’re planning to go fishing in Arizona in 2024, it’s important to understand the state’s fishing license requirements. In Arizona, a valid fishing license is mandatory for both residents and non-residents aged 10 and older who wish to fish in any publicly accessible waters.

Who Needs a Fishing License in Arizona?

According to the Arizona Game and Fish Department, anglers aged 10 and older must purchase a valid fishing license to fish in any public waters within the state. This rule applies to both Arizona residents and non-residents.

However, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Youth under the age of 10 and blind residents do not need to purchase a state fishing license to fish in Arizona. Additionally, anglers are not required to have a license when fishing on free fishing day, which usually takes place on the first Saturday of National Fishing and Boating Week. In 2024, free fishing day will be held on June 1.

The cost is $5 for both residents and non-residents.

4. **Short-term Combination Hunt and Fish License**: This license allows for fishing statewide, including Community Fishing waters, and hunting of small game, fur-bearing animals, predatory animals, and upland game birds. It is valid for any day selected at the time of purchase and costs $15 per day for residents and $20 per day for non-residents.

In addition to these basic licenses, Arizona also offers lifetime fishing and combination licenses for residents, as well as a Lifetime Wildlife Benefactor License that allows fishing and hunting while donating to the state’s wildlife conservation programs.

Where to Purchase a Fishing License in Arizona

Fishing licenses in Arizona can be purchased from various locations:

– 150 license dealers statewide, including many local sporting goods stores, bait and tackle shops, major retailers, and convenience stores – Arizona Game and Fish Department offices – Online at azgfd.gov, with an immediate printout of the license – By mail using the Nonresident Hunting and Fishing License Order Form
