The Missouri Department of Conservation recently announced changes to the cost of trout permits and daily tags for the 2024 fishing season. These adjustments aim to keep up with rising costs and ensure the continued management and conservation of Missouri’s trout fisheries.
In 2024, the cost of an annual trout permit will increase from its current price:
Anglers 16 years of age and older: $10 (previously $7)
Anglers 15 years and younger: $5 (previously $3.50)
This permit is required for anyone possessing trout, except in trout parks where a daily trout fishing tag must be purchased instead.
The cost of a daily trout tag, necessary for fishing at three of Missouri’s four trout parks, will also see an increase in 2024:
Adults: $5 (previously $3)
Youth (15 and under): $3 (previously $2)
These daily tags provide anglers with the opportunity to fish for trout at the state’s popular trout parks, which offer excellent fishing opportunities and well-stocked waters.
The Missouri Conservation Commission approved these price increases after the Missouri Department of Conservation proposed the adjustments. The MDC cited the need to keep up with rising costs of goods and services used to manage conservation areas, nature centers, shooting ranges, fish hatcheries, and other facilities.
It’s important to note that most permit prices have remained unchanged for the past 20 years, making this adjustment necessary to ensure the continued quality of Missouri’s trout fishing resources.
Despite these price increases, certain anglers remain exempt from the annual fishing permit requirement:
Those under 16 years of age
Anglers 65 years of age and older
Additionally, the MDC website provides more detailed information on the specific permit prices and the commission’s decision to adjust them for the 2024 fishing season.
