How to Connect an Antenna to a TV with a Broken Coaxial Input

If your TV’s coaxial input has been damaged, you may still be able to watch over-the-air channels by using an alternative method. One option is to connect a set-top box antenna to your TV using an HDMI cable.

Assess the Damage

Before attempting any repairs or workarounds, it’s important to determine the extent of the damage to your TV’s coaxial input. If the connector has been completely broken off, it may not be possible to reattach it. In some cases, the entire mainboard may need to be replaced to fix the issue.

Connect a Set-Top Box Antenna

To connect a set-top box antenna to your TV, follow these steps:

Connect the antenna to the coaxial input on the set-top box using a coaxial cable.
Connect the set-top box to your TV using an HDMI cable.
Turn on both the set-top box and the TV.
Press the INPUT button on your TV remote until you see the HDMI input come up on the screen.
Scan for available channels on the set-top box.

This method allows you to continue watching over-the-air channels without needing to repair the coaxial input on your TV.

Consider Other Options

If you’re not interested in using a set-top box, there are a few other options to consider:

Replacing the entire mainboard of your TV, which may be necessary if the damage is extensive.
Attempting to repair the coaxial input yourself, which may be possible if the connector is still intact but has been pulled out of the board. This requires soldering skills and the right tools.
Using a different input on your TV, such as HDMI or component video, if available.

Ultimately, the best solution will depend on the specific damage to your TV and your own technical abilities. If you’re not comfortable attempting repairs yourself, it’s best to consult with a professional TV repair technician.
