How to Fix “Startup Repair Cannot Repair This Computer Automatically” in Windows?

If you’ve encountered the frustrating “Startup Repair Cannot Repair This Computer Automatically” error on your Windows PC, don’t worry. There are several effective methods you can try to resolve this issue and get your computer up and running again.

Method 1: Boot into Safe Mode

Booting your computer into Safe Mode can help bypass startup issues and allow you to troubleshoot further:

Restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly before Windows starts loading.
Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the Advanced Boot Options menu.
Once in Safe Mode, try running Windows Update to install any pending updates that might fix the issue.

Method 2: Use System Configuration Tool

The System Configuration tool can help identify problematic startup programs:

Press Windows key R, type “msconfig” and hit Enter.
Go to the “Services” tab and check “Hide all Microsoft services”.
Click “Disable all” then go to the “Startup” tab and click “Open Task Manager”.
Disable all startup items and restart your computer.

Method 3: Repair Windows Installation

If the above methods don’t work, you may need to repair your Windows installation:

Boot from a Windows installation media (USB or DVD).
Choose “Repair your computer” instead of “Install now”.
Select “Troubleshoot” > “Advanced options” > “Startup Repair”.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

Method 4: Check and Replace Faulty Hardware

Sometimes, hardware issues can cause startup problems:

Check all cable connections, especially those connected to your hard drive.
If possible, test your hard drive in another computer to rule out drive failure.
Consider replacing your CMOS battery if your computer is old, as a weak battery can cause boot issues.

Method 5: Use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

WinRE offers additional repair options:

Boot into WinRE by forcing your PC to restart during boot 2-3 times.
Select “Troubleshoot” > “Advanced options”.
Try options like “System Restore” or “Startup Settings” to resolve the issue.

Method 6: Perform a Clean Install

As a last resort, you may need to perform a clean install of Windows:

Back up all your important data.
Create a bootable Windows installation media.
Boot from the media and choose “Custom: Install Windows only”.
Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
