Has the elastic on your fitted sheets lost its stretch? Don’t throw them out just yet! With a few simple steps, you can easily replace the elastic and get more life out of your favorite sheets. Here’s how:
First, measure the length of the elastic in the sheet without stretching it. Use a flexible tape measure and follow the curve of the fitted corner. Add an inch to that measurement to get the correct length for the replacement elastic.
Feed the sheet and elastic under the sewing machine needle with the elastic on top, stretching it slightly to match the edge of the sheet. Sew with a wide, medium-length zigzag or appropriate stretch stitch, securing the thread with a few backstitches at each end of the elastic. Repeat for each corner.
With a little time and effort, you can have your fitted sheets looking and fitting like new again. Say goodbye to stretched out elastic and hello to a perfectly fitted bed!
