How to Rebuild the BCD and Fix Boot Issues in Windows 10 Without Installation Disc

Rebuilding the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store and fixing boot issues in Windows 10 can be a daunting task, especially if you don’t have a Windows installation disc handy. However, there are several methods you can use to resolve these problems using the Command Prompt (CMD) and other tools. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to fix boot and rebuild BCD in Windows 10 without an installation disc.

Rebuilding BCD Using Command Prompt

If you’re able to boot into Windows 10 but encounter issues with the BCD store, you can use the Command Prompt to rebuild it. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Windows key X and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” or “Windows PowerShell (Admin)”.
  2. In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands and press Enter after each:
     bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old bootrec /rebuildbcd
  3. Once the process is complete, type “exit” and press Enter to close the Command Prompt.
  4. Restart your computer and check if the issue has been resolved.

If you encounter an “Access Denied” error while running the “bootrec /fixboot” command, you can try booting into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and using the Command Prompt there instead.

Using Startup Repair to Fix Boot Issues

If you’re unable to boot into Windows 10 and suspect a problem with the BCD store, you can use the Startup Repair tool to fix the issue. Here’s how:

  1. Boot your computer using a Windows 10 installation media (USB drive or DVD).
  2. When the Windows Setup screen appears, select your preferred language, time, and keyboard input, then click “Next”.
  3. Click on “Repair your computer” in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  4. In the “Choose an option” screen, select “Troubleshoot”.
  5. Click on “Advanced options”.
  6. Select “Startup Repair” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

The Startup Repair tool will scan your system for any issues and attempt to fix them automatically. If successful, your computer should boot into Windows 10 without any problems.

Using EaseUS Partition Master to Rebuild BCD

If the above methods don’t work or you’re unable to access the Command Prompt, you can use a third-party tool like EaseUS Partition Master to rebuild the BCD store. Here’s how:

  1. Download and install EaseUS Partition Master on a working computer.
  2. Connect a USB drive or external hard drive to the computer.
  3. Open EaseUS Partition Master and click on “Create Bootable Media”.
  4. Select “EaseUS Boot Toolkit” and click “Next”.
  5. Choose the USB drive or external hard drive as the bootable media and click “Go” to create the bootable drive.
  6. Connect the bootable drive to the computer with the BCD issue and boot from it.
  7. In the EaseUS Partition Master environment, select the system you want to repair and click “Repair”.
  8. Wait for the repair process to complete and restart your computer.

EaseUS Partition Master provides a user-friendly interface and a dedicated “Boot Repair” feature that can effectively rebuild the BCD store and fix boot issues in Windows 10.

In addition to rebuilding the BCD store, EaseUS Partition Master offers other powerful features such as disk partitioning, disk cloning, and disk surface testing. It can help you manage your disks more efficiently and resolve various boot-related problems.
