Scratches on your favorite DVDs can be a real pain, but did you know that you can often fix them with a simple household item – toothpaste? That’s right, the same toothpaste you use to keep your teeth clean and shiny can also work wonders on restoring your damaged discs. Here’s how to remove scratches from a DVD with toothpaste:
White toothpaste (not gel)
A clean, lint-free cloth
Water
A soft, dry cloth
Gently wipe the disc with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris.
Dry the disc with a soft, dry cloth, wiping from the center outwards.
Apply a small dab of white toothpaste to a clean, lint-free cloth.
Gently rub the toothpaste along the scratch, moving from the center of the disc outwards.
Apply light pressure and avoid rubbing in circles.
Run the disc under warm water to remove the toothpaste.
Dry the disc with a soft, dry cloth, wiping from the center outwards.
And that’s it! With a little elbow grease and some toothpaste, you can often restore your scratched DVDs to their former glory. Keep in mind that this method works best for light to moderate scratches. Deep gouges may require professional repair or replacement of the disc.
