Finding a scratch on the surface of your watch face can be disappointing! Luckily, most scratches can be easily removed with a bit of polish and a soft buffing cloth.
Identifying the Right Polish
The type of polish you use will depend on the material of your watch crystal. Here’s a quick guide:
Acrylic or Plastic Crystals
For watches with acrylic or plastic crystals, you can use toothpaste, Polywatch paste, or Brasso polish to remove scratches.
Mineral Glass Crystals
Watches with mineral glass crystals can be polished using a variety of polishes and pastes.
Sapphire Crystals
If your watch has a sapphire crystal, you’ll need to use specialized polishes like 0.5 Micron Lapping Paste or 3 Micron DP3 Dia-Paste to avoid further damage.
Preparing and Polishing the Watch
Protect the rest of your watch by covering the bezel and case with painter’s tape.
Apply a small amount of the appropriate polish to the watch crystal.
Use a soft, microfiber cloth to gently buff the crystal in circular motions for 2-3 minutes.
Repeat the process if the scratch is still visible.
