How to Repair a Fiberglass Pool Underwater: A Simple Solution

Repairing a fiberglass pool doesn’t have to be a daunting task, even when the damage is underwater. With the right epoxy products, you can easily fix cracks, chips, and other issues without the need to drain your pool. This simple guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, allowing you to maintain your pool’s integrity and keep it in top shape.

Choosing the Right Underwater Epoxy

The key to successful underwater pool repairs is using an epoxy that is specifically designed for submerged applications. Look for products like PC-Pool Epoxy or PC-11 Marine Epoxy, which are formulated to adhere and cure even when submerged in water. These two-part epoxies mix easily and can be applied directly to the damaged area without any special preparation.

Preparing the Repair Area

Before applying the epoxy, make sure to thoroughly clean the area around the crack or damage. Use a stiff brush or scraper to remove any debris, algae, or loose material. This will help the epoxy bond securely to the fiberglass surface.

Applying the Epoxy

Once the area is clean, simply mix the two-part epoxy according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply the mixed epoxy directly to the damaged area, smoothing it out with a putty knife or your fingers. Be sure to work quickly, as the epoxy will begin to cure within a matter of minutes.

Curing and Finishing Touches

After applying the epoxy, allow it to fully cure according to the product’s recommended timeline, which is typically around 15 hours. Once cured, you can lightly sand the area to blend it in with the surrounding fiberglass, if desired. Your pool is now ready to be refilled and enjoyed!
