How to Repair Microsoft Office in Windows 8 or 8.1

Before you begin, make sure to save any open documents and close all Office applications.

Repair Microsoft Office Using the Quick Repair Tool
Right-click on the Windows “start” icon (bottom-left corner of your screen) to open the “Start Context Menu”.
Select “Apps and Features” (or “Programs and Features” in Windows 8).
Scroll down and locate “Microsoft Office” in the list of installed programs.
Click on the ellipsis (three dots) next to “Microsoft Office” and select “Modify”.
In the “How would you like to repair your Office Programs” window, select “Quick Repair” and click “Repair”.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

Quick Repair

The Quick Repair option is the fastest way to fix common issues with Microsoft Office. It detects and replaces corrupted files without making any changes to your settings or data.
Repair Microsoft Office Using the Online Repair Tool
If the Quick Repair doesn’t resolve the issue, you can try the Online Repair tool:
Repeat steps 1-4 from the Quick Repair section above.
In the “How would you like to repair your Office Programs” window, select “Online Repair” and click “Repair”.
The Online Repair tool will download the necessary files from Microsoft’s servers to your computer, which may take several minutes depending on your internet connection speed.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

Online Repair

The Online Repair tool is more comprehensive than Quick Repair. It downloads and installs a fresh set of Office files from Microsoft’s servers, ensuring that any corrupted or missing files are replaced.
Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft Office
If the repair tools don’t work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office:
Open the Control Panel and go to “Programs and Features” (or “Apps and Features” in Windows 8).
Select “Microsoft Office” and click “Uninstall”.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.
Once the uninstallation is finished, visit the Microsoft Office website and download the latest version of Office suitable for your Windows 8 or 8.1 computer.
Install the new Office suite, following the on-screen instructions.

After reinstalling Microsoft Office, try opening the problematic application again. If the issue persists, you may need to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
