How to Repair Water-Damaged Concrete: 3 Steps for Restoring Wet Floors

Concrete is a durable material, but it is not immune to water damage. Whether it’s from a flood, a burst pipe, or simply excessive moisture, water can wreak havoc on concrete floors and slabs. Ignoring water-damaged concrete can lead to further deterioration, structural issues, and even health hazards like mold growth. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to repair water-damaged concrete and restore it to its former strength and appearance.

Remove Standing Water

The first step in repairing water-damaged concrete is to remove any standing water from the affected area. This can be done with towels, absorbent rags, or even a wet/dry vacuum. It’s important to remove as much standing water as possible to prevent it from seeping deeper into the concrete and causing further damage.

Dehumidify the Space

Once the standing water has been removed, the next step is to dehumidify the affected area. Concrete that remains damp can lose its adhesive properties, making it difficult to properly repair cracks or apply new coatings. Use a dehumidifier to lower the humidity level in the space, aiming for a level below 50%.

Hire a Professional Restoration Company

If the water damage is extensive or the concrete has been compromised, it’s best to hire a professional restoration company to assess the damage and determine the best course of action. These experts have the tools, equipment, and expertise to properly dry out the concrete, identify the root cause of the water intrusion, and implement a comprehensive repair plan.
