How to Repair Windows from Another Computer: A Step-by-Step Guide

If your Windows computer is experiencing issues that prevent it from booting properly, you may need to repair it from another working computer. This can be done using a bootable USB drive and a third-party tool like AOMEI Partition Assistant. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process step by step.

Preparing the Bootable USB Drive

To begin, you’ll need a blank USB drive and a working computer that can access the internet. Follow these steps to create a bootable USB drive:

Download and install AOMEI Partition Assistant on the working computer.
Connect the blank USB drive to the computer and make sure it is detected.
Launch AOMEI Partition Assistant and click on “Make Bootable Media” in the left sidebar.
In the pop-up window, select “USB Boot Device” and click “Proceed”.
Wait for the bootable USB drive to be created.

Repairing Windows from Another Computer

Once you have the bootable USB drive, follow these steps to repair your Windows computer:

Power off the computer with the corrupted Windows installation.
Insert the bootable USB drive into the computer.
Power on the computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing a key like F2 or DEL during boot).
Change the boot order to boot from the USB drive.
Save the changes and exit the BIOS.
The computer should now boot from the USB drive, launching AOMEI Partition Assistant.
In AOMEI Partition Assistant, right-click on the system disk and select “Rebuild MBR”.
Follow the prompts to rebuild the Master Boot Record (MBR).
Once the process is complete, click “Apply” to commit the changes.

After rebuilding the MBR, your Windows computer should be able to boot normally. If you encounter any issues or data loss during the process, AOMEI Partition Assistant also includes a “Recover Data” function to help retrieve lost files.

In addition to creating bootable media and rebuilding the MBR, AOMEI Partition Assistant offers a wide range of other powerful features, such as resizing, deleting, and creating partitions, copying partitions and disks, migrating the operating system to an SSD, and more.
