If your Windows XP computer is not starting up properly or won’t boot, you can try repairing it using the Recovery Console. Here’s how:
Restart in the Recovery Console
Restart your computer and tap the F8 key repeatedly as it’s booting up.
Select “Safe Mode with Command Prompt” from the Advanced Options menu.
This will take you to the Recovery Console, where you can run various commands to diagnose and repair your system.
Run Disk Check
In the Recovery Console, type chkdsk /r and press Enter. This will check your hard drive for errors and attempt to fix them.
If the disk check finds issues, it will schedule the volume to be checked the next time you restart. Allow the process to complete.
Perform a Repair Installation
If the disk check doesn’t resolve the issue, you can try a repair installation of Windows XP.
Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your computer’s CD drive and restart the system.
Press any key when prompted to boot from the CD.
At the “Welcome to Setup” screen, press R to enter the Recovery Console.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair installation.
