If you’ve taken damage to your ship’s hull while exploring the depths of space in Elite Dangerous, you’ll need to know how to properly repair it. Luckily, the game provides several options for hull repair, each with its own advantages and considerations.
Repair Limpets
The primary method for repairing your hull in Elite Dangerous is through the use of repair limpets. These specialized drones can be launched from your ship to automatically fix any hull damage. To use repair limpets, you’ll need the following:
A Repair Limpet Controller module installed on your ship
Repair limpets in your cargo hold
Enough materials to synthesize additional limpets if needed
Simply launch the repair limpets with no target, and they’ll get to work restoring your hull. This is a convenient option, but it does require you to have the necessary limpets and materials on hand.
Fleet Carrier Repair Stations
If you find yourself in need of hull repair while deep in space, you may be able to locate a nearby Fleet Carrier with a repair station. These mobile bases, operated by other players, can provide on-the-spot hull and module repairs. To utilize a Fleet Carrier’s repair services, simply navigate to the carrier and dock with it.
It’s important to note that the Automated Field Maintenance Unit, while useful for repairing internal modules, does not actually fix hull damage. Additionally, while you can technically return to a station to have your hull repaired, this may not be a viable option if you’re deep in exploration territory.
