How to Troubleshoot and Reset the Groove Music App on Windows 10 and 11

If you’re experiencing issues with the Groove Music app on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 device, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to get it working again. From resetting the app’s data to addressing potential system conflicts, this guide will walk you through the process of resolving common Groove Music problems.

Resetting the Groove Music App

One of the first things you can try is resetting the Groove Music app on your Windows device. This will delete all of the app’s data, including your preferences and sign-in details, but it may help resolve any underlying issues that are causing the app to crash or not function properly.

To reset the Groove Music app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Windows 10 or 11 device.
  2. Click on System.
  3. Select Groove Music from the list of apps.
  4. Click the Advanced options link.
  5. Click the Reset button.
  6. Click Reset one more time to confirm the action.

After resetting the app, you may need to re-add your music library and recreate any playlists you had previously. Keep in mind that this is a permanent action, and there’s no way to undo it.

Troubleshooting Groove Music Crashes

If the Groove Music app is crashing immediately after you sign in, there may be an issue with your system configuration or a conflict with another app or service. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this problem:

  1. Disconnect your device from the internet and try launching the Groove Music app. If it works without crashing, the issue may be related to your internet connection or a problem with the app’s cloud integration.
  2. Check your system’s microphone permissions. Open the Settings app, go to Privacy, and ensure that the “Allow apps to access your microphone” setting is turned on. Also, make sure the Groove Music app is allowed to access the microphone.
  3. Try resetting the Windows Store. Open the Settings app, go to Apps > Apps & features, and locate the Microsoft Store app. Click the three-dot menu and select Advanced options, then click Reset.
  4. If the above steps don’t work, you can try running the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter. Open the Settings app, go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, and select the “Windows Store Apps” troubleshooter, then click Run.

If the Groove Music app is still not working after trying these troubleshooting steps, you may need to consider alternative music players or explore more advanced solutions, such as reinstalling Windows or contacting Microsoft support for further assistance.

Resetting Your Groove Music Cloud Collection

If the issues you’re experiencing with Groove Music are related to your cloud-synced music collection, you can try resetting your Groove Music cloud collection. This will remove all the music you’ve added from the Groove catalog, as well as any playlists you’ve created, but it won’t delete any local music files you’ve added to your collection.

To reset your Groove Music cloud collection, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Groove Music app.
  2. Click the hamburger button in the top-left corner.
  3. Click the Settings (gear) button at the bottom of the app.
  4. Scroll down to the “Reset” section and click the “Delete your playlists and any music you’ve added or downloaded from the Groove catalog” link.
  5. Select the options you want to reset, such as removing music from the Groove catalog, removing purchased songs, or removing playlists.
  6. Click the “Reset now” button to confirm the action.

After resetting your Groove Music cloud collection, you’ll need to re-add any music you want to access from the Groove catalog, and you’ll need to recreate any playlists you had previously. However, this may help resolve issues related to a cluttered or problematic music library.
