Is It Safe to Drive With a Broken ABS Sensor Ring?

If your vehicle’s ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) sensor ring is broken, you may be wondering if it’s still safe to drive. The good news is that you can still drive your car, but there are a few important things to keep in mind.

Normal Braking Still Works

When the ABS system is disabled due to a broken sensor ring, your vehicle’s normal braking system will still function as usual. You’ll still be able to stop your car, but you won’t have the added benefit of anti-lock brakes.

Increased Risk in Slippery Conditions

Without a properly functioning ABS system, your vehicle may be more prone to wheel lockup during sudden braking, especially on slippery surfaces like wet roads, snow, or ice. This can make it harder to maintain control of your vehicle and could potentially lead to skidding or sliding.

Driving Precautions

To minimize the risks associated with a broken ABS sensor ring, it’s important to drive with extra caution, especially in inclement weather. Avoid sudden braking, maintain a safe following distance, and be prepared to pump the brakes manually if you feel the wheels start to lock up.

Repair Recommendation

While it’s possible to drive with a broken ABS sensor ring, it’s not recommended to do so for an extended period. The sensor ring is a critical component of your vehicle’s braking system, and a failure can indicate a larger issue. It’s best to have the sensor ring repaired or replaced as soon as possible to ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle.
