According to a teardown by iFixit, the Surface Pro 9 has received a respectable 7 out of 10 on the repairability scale. This is a significant improvement over previous Surface Pro models, which had received some of the lowest scores from iFixit.

Easier Access to Components

One of the key improvements in the Surface Pro 9 is the ease of access to various components. The SSD, for example, can be accessed by simply lifting a small magnetic flap, making it easy to upgrade or replace. Additionally, the battery is now screwed in, rather than being glued down, making it much simpler to replace.

Modular Design and Availability of Repair Parts

Microsoft has also made strides in improving the overall modularity of the Surface Pro 9. The device now features a number of replaceable components, including the display module, motherboard, thermal module, and more. Furthermore, the company has committed to making repair manuals and spare parts available to both authorized repair centers and consumers by the end of 2023.

This shift towards increased repairability is a welcome development, as it empowers users to maintain and service their own devices, reducing e-waste and promoting sustainability.
