Repairing ships in Stellaris can be a crucial aspect of maintaining a strong fleet. While going back to a space port is the most common method, there are alternative ways to repair your ships without returning to base.

Repairing Ships Without a Space Port

One way to repair ships without going back to a space port is by researching a technology gained from space beings that allows for organic armor that repairs over time. This method repairs ships slowly and does not work during combat, but it eliminates the need to return to a space port.

Additional Repair Options

With the 1.9 patch version, there are four ways to regenerate your fleet’s hull points away from space ports:

Regenerative Hull

This is an auxiliary slot item that can be installed on your ships. It requires researching technology recovered from space monsters (amoebas, crystals, etc.).

Living Metal

This is a strategic resource found within the galaxy. It requires the Living Metal research, which is unlocked through a random event triggered by surveying the galaxy.

Nanobot Cloud

This is an aura slot item available for military bases.

Engineer

This is a trait available to the Admiral leader.

Strategic Station Building

Stations can play a significant role in ship repair. Any controlled, operational starbase above outpost level can be used for repairs. Crew Quarters on a captured Starhold can also allow for ship repairs, even without a Shipyard.
