What to Do If You Lose Your Oregon Fishing License in 2024

Losing your Oregon fishing license can be a frustrating experience, but don’t worry – there are steps you can take to get a replacement. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of obtaining a duplicate license and provide some helpful tips to avoid losing it in the future.

Obtaining a Duplicate License

If you’ve lost your Oregon fishing license, you can easily obtain a duplicate through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (ODFW) electronic licensing system (ELS). Here’s how:

  1. Visit the ODFW’s ELS website and log in to your account.
  2. Once logged in, you’ll find your licenses and tags in your portfolio. Select the option to purchase a duplicate license.
  3. Pay the required duplicate fee, which ranges from $2 to $25.50 for each application requesting duplicates.
  4. If you prefer to order by mail, send the fee and a signed form to: Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, 4034 Fairview Industrial Drive SE, Salem, OR 97302, or fax it to (503) 947-6117.

If you have any questions, you can call the ODFW at (503) 947-6101 for assistance.

Reporting a Lost or Stolen License

In addition to obtaining a duplicate license, it’s important to report your lost or stolen license to the ODFW. This helps them keep track of any unauthorized use of your license and prevents someone else from using it illegally. You can report the loss by contacting the ODFW at (503) 947-6101.

Avoiding Future Losses

To prevent losing your fishing license in the future, consider these tips:

  • Use the MyODFW mobile app: Download the MyODFW app on your smartphone and carry your licenses and tags electronically. This eliminates the need for physical documents and makes it easier to keep track of your licenses.
  • Keep your licenses in a safe place: If you prefer physical licenses, store them in a designated location, such as your wallet or a specific folder, to avoid misplacing them.
  • Check for access and understand point reinstatement/refund policy: Before heading out to fish, make sure you have the necessary licenses and tags. Review the ODFW’s regulations and policies to understand your rights and responsibilities as an angler.

Losing your Oregon fishing license can be a hassle, but with the right information and a few proactive steps, you can get back on the water in no time. Remember to always carry your licenses, either physically or electronically, and report any losses to the ODFW. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy a smooth and worry-free fishing experience in Oregon.
