Why Can’t I Repair Weapons in Fallout: New Vegas?

In Fallout: New Vegas, repairing weapons can be a bit tricky, especially if you’re not familiar with the game’s mechanics. One common issue players face is being unable to repair certain weapons, even when they have the necessary skill points in Repair. This is often due to a mechanic called “Damage Threshold” (DT).

Damage Threshold (DT) and Weapon Repair

Damage Threshold is a combat statistic that determines how much damage an enemy can absorb before taking any actual harm. In Fallout: New Vegas, DT also plays a role in weapon repair. Weapons with a DT value cannot be repaired by merchants, as they are considered too damaged to be fixed by regular means.
To repair these weapons, you’ll need to acquire the “Jury Rigging” perk, which allows you to use similar weapons as repair kits. For example, if you have a damaged hunting rifle, you can use a varmint rifle or a service rifle to repair it, as long as they are of the same weapon type.

Repair Skill and Efficiency

Another factor to consider is your Repair skill level. While you no longer need a maxed-out Repair skill to fully repair your weapons, the skill does affect how efficiently you can repair them. The higher your Repair skill, the more durability you’ll be able to restore to your weapons.
It’s important to note that repairing weapons in Fallout: New Vegas can be costly, both in terms of caps and resources. Merchants often charge high prices for their repair services, and using similar weapons as repair kits can be resource-intensive.
To maximize your weapon repair efficiency, consider investing in the Jury Rigging perk and keeping your Repair skill at a decent level. This will allow you to maintain your weapons in top condition without breaking the bank.
