Elytra can be repaired using three primary methods:
Mending Enchantment: This enchantment slowly repairs the elytra as the player collects experience orbs while wearing or holding it. The enchantment can be obtained through treasure chests, fishing, or villager trading3.
Combining in a Grindstone or Anvil: Two damaged elytra can be combined in a grindstone or anvil to create a single, more durable elytra. This method also allows for the transfer of enchantments if done in an anvil3.
Using Phantom Membranes: Phantom membranes can be used in an anvil to repair elytra. Each membrane restores 108 durability points, requiring four membranes to fully repair an elytra3.
Limitations and Workarounds
While there is no strict limit to the number of times an elytra can be repaired, the Prior Work Penalty mechanism does make it increasingly expensive to repair items on an anvil. This penalty can be mitigated by using the mending enchantment or combining elytra in a grindstone.
