Spray the sensor with a brake cleaner or electrical contact cleaner to remove any built-up oil, sludge, or debris.
Use compressed air to blow out any remaining contaminants.
Dry the sensor thoroughly with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Reinstalling the Sensor
After cleaning, simply reinstall the sensor and reconnect the electrical connector. Be sure to use Teflon tape on the threads to ensure a proper seal and prevent any future leaks.
In many cases, this simple cleaning process can resolve fluctuating oil pressure readings and get your vehicle’s oil pressure system back to normal operation. However, if the sensor is still malfunctioning after cleaning, it’s likely time to replace the unit entirely.
