Resident Fishing Licenses
Nova Scotia residents can purchase a seasonal fishing license for $27.60, which includes taxes. This license is valid from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, and allows you to fish for any species of fish (except salmon) in fresh water throughout the province.
Residents who are 16 or 17 years old can obtain a seasonal fishing license at no cost. Additionally, seniors aged 65 and older can purchase a discounted seasonal license for $6.80.
For residents who don’t want to commit to a full season, a one-day fishing license is available for $13.10.
Non-Resident Fishing Licenses
Non-residents of Nova Scotia can purchase a seasonal fishing license for $34.80. This license is valid for the same period as the resident license and allows fishing for any species of fish (except salmon) in fresh water.
Non-residents aged 16 or 17 can obtain a seasonal fishing license at no cost. For non-residents aged 18 and older who have a disability, a seasonal fishing license is also available at no cost.
A one-day fishing license for non-residents is priced at $13.10. Non-residents also have the option of purchasing a seven-day license for $63.65.
Salmon Fishing Licenses
In addition to the general fishing license, anglers who wish to fish for Atlantic salmon in Nova Scotia’s fresh waters must also purchase a separate salmon fishing license.
Residents aged 18 and older can purchase a seasonal salmon fishing license for $42.00. Non-residents in the same age group can obtain a seasonal salmon fishing license for $157.40.
Residents and non-residents aged 16 and 17, as well as those with disabilities, can obtain a seasonal salmon fishing license at no cost.
For non-residents, a seven-day salmon fishing license is available for $63.65. A one-day salmon fishing license for both residents and non-residents is priced at $30.00.
Applying for a Fishing License
Fishing licenses in Nova Scotia can be purchased online through the province’s website. Applicants must provide an email address to receive their license electronically.
Alternatively, licenses can be obtained from authorized vendors throughout the province. When applying in person, applicants must present proof of age and residency, such as a driver’s license or health card.
Replacement licenses are available for $5.75.
It’s important to note that fishing licenses are non-refundable and non-transferable. Anglers must carry their license with them while fishing and follow all provincial and federal fishing regulations, including seasons, gear restrictions, and bag limits.
