Yes, Free Fishing Weekend is still happening in Arkansas in 2024. Governor Asa Hutchinson has declared June 11-13, 2024 as Free Fishing Weekend in the state. During this time, residents and nonresidents may fish anywhere in Arkansas from noon on Friday, June 11 until midnight on Sunday, June 13 without fishing licenses or trout permits.
However, while fishing licenses and trout permits are not required, anglers must still follow all other regulations for Arkansas waters, including daily limits, slot limits, and length limits. Arkansas State Parks will provide access to fishing locations during this weekend.
Fishing Derbies at State Hatcheries
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is hosting fishing derbies at four state hatcheries during Free Fishing Weekend:
Joe Hogan State Fish Hatchery in Lonoke
Charlie Craig State Fish Hatchery in Centerton
William H. Donham State Fish Hatchery in Corning
Andrew Hulsey State Fish Hatchery in Hot Springs
All derbies will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 8 a.m. to noon. Adults and children must register in advance to participate. Anglers should bring their own fishing gear, bait, chairs, water, sunscreen, and snacks. There is a limit of three fish per person at the derbies.
