How to Boot into Safe Mode in Windows 10 Using MSConfig

To enter Safe Mode using MSConfig, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open MSConfig

Press the Windows key R to open the Run dialog box. Type “msconfig” and press Enter. This will open the System Configuration utility.

Step 2: Navigate to the Boot tab

In the System Configuration window, click on the Boot tab. Here, you’ll find various boot options for your computer.

Step 3: Enable Safe Mode

Under the Boot options section, check the “Safe boot” checkbox. This will enable Safe Mode for the next time you boot your computer.

You can also select the type of Safe Mode you want to use:

Minimal: This is the basic Safe Mode, which loads only the essential drivers and services needed for Windows to run.
Active Directory repair: This option is specifically for domain controllers and is used to repair Active Directory.
Command Prompt: This option starts Windows in Safe Mode with a command prompt interface, which can be useful for advanced troubleshooting.

Once you’ve selected the desired Safe Mode option, click “OK” to save the changes and exit MSConfig.

Step 4: Restart your computer

After making the changes in MSConfig, restart your computer. It will now boot into Safe Mode.

To exit Safe Mode and return to normal boot, follow these steps:

Open MSConfig again by pressing the Windows key R, typing “msconfig”, and pressing Enter.
In the System Configuration window, go to the Boot tab.
Uncheck the “Safe boot” checkbox.
Click “OK” to save the changes and exit MSConfig.
Restart your computer, and it will boot into normal mode.
