How to Easily Repair Small Cuts in Linoleum Flooring

Linoleum is a popular and durable flooring choice, but accidents can happen. If you find a small cut or scratch in your linoleum, don’t worry – it’s an easy fix! Here’s how to permanently seal those pesky cuts and restore your floor to its former glory.

Gather Your Supplies

To repair a small cut in linoleum, you’ll need:

Liquid seam sealer (a clear compound found wherever vinyl flooring is sold)
Lacquer thinner
Soft cloth
Wax paper
Heavy weight (like a book or brick)

Clean the Area

Before applying the sealer, make sure the area is clean and free of debris. Dip a soft cloth in lacquer thinner and gently wipe down the cut to remove any dirt or grime.

Apply the Sealer

Once the area is clean, squeeze a thin bead of liquid seam sealer directly into the cut. The sealer will fuse the edges of the linoleum together, creating a permanent bond. Use a putty knife or other flat tool to gently press the sealer into the cut, ensuring it fills the entire gap.

Seal the Repair

After applying the sealer, cover the area with wax paper and place a heavy weight, like a book or brick, on top. This will help the sealer dry evenly and prevent the linoleum from curling. Leave the weight in place for 24 hours to allow the sealer to fully cure.

And that’s it! With just a few simple steps and the right supplies, you can easily repair small cuts in your linoleum flooring. The repair will be virtually invisible once dry, and your floor will be as good as new. Happy repairing!
