How to Fix Kernel Data Inpage Error in Windows 10 and 11

Kernel Data Inpage Error is a dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error that can cause your Windows 10 or 11 system to crash or become unresponsive. This critical error occurs when the kernel, the core component of the operating system, is unable to retrieve the necessary data from the paging file on the hard drive.

Inspect the Hardware Connections and Wires

The first step in troubleshooting the Kernel Data Inpage Error is to ensure that all the hardware connections and wires are properly secured. Check the connections for the hard drive, RAM, and other critical components. Loose or faulty connections can contribute to this error.

Inspect the Hard Drive

The Kernel Data Inpage Error is often caused by issues with the hard drive, such as bad sectors or file system corruption. Use the built-in Windows tools to check the health of your hard drive. Run the CHKDSK command in an elevated Command Prompt to scan for and repair any errors on the drive. You can also use the Check Disk Utility in File Explorer to perform a similar scan.

Clean Boot

A clean boot can help identify if the Kernel Data Inpage Error is caused by a third-party application or driver conflict. Start your Windows 10 or 11 system in Safe Mode, which loads only the essential drivers and services. If the error is resolved in Safe Mode, it’s likely that a conflicting program or driver is the culprit.

Restore BIOS Default Settings

Incorrect BIOS settings can also contribute to the Kernel Data Inpage Error. Try restoring the BIOS to its default settings, which can help resolve any conflicts or issues that may be causing the error. Consult your motherboard manufacturer’s documentation for the specific steps to access and reset the BIOS.

Uninstall Third-Party Incompatible Software

Incompatible third-party software, such as antivirus programs, can sometimes interfere with the kernel and lead to the Kernel Data Inpage Error. Try uninstalling any recently installed software and see if that resolves the issue. You can also try performing a system restore to a previous point in time when the error was not occurring.

Remove Hardware

If the Kernel Data Inpage Error persists, it’s possible that a hardware component, such as a faulty RAM module or a failing hard drive, is the root cause. Try removing any recently added hardware and see if the error goes away. You can also try swapping out the RAM or hard drive with known-good components to isolate the issue.

Run Antivirus and Malware Scan

Malware infections can also lead to the Kernel Data Inpage Error. Run a comprehensive antivirus and malware scan to ensure that your system is free of any malicious software that could be interfering with the kernel. Use a reputable antivirus program and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to perform a full system scan.

Disable Paging File Management

The Kernel Data Inpage Error is often related to issues with the paging file, which is used by the kernel to manage virtual memory. Try disabling the paging file management and see if that resolves the issue. You can do this by opening the System Properties, navigating to the Advanced tab, and clicking the Settings button under the “Performance” section. Then, select the “No paging file” option and apply the changes.

Re-install or Update Device Drivers

Outdated or incompatible device drivers can also contribute to the Kernel Data Inpage Error. Try updating the drivers for your critical hardware components, such as the hard drive, RAM, and graphics card. If updating the drivers doesn’t work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers. You can use the Device Manager or the manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest drivers.
