How to Fix a Stuck DVD Tray: Simple Solutions for Smooth Playback

Are you struggling with a stuck DVD tray on your recorder? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many people face this issue, but the good news is that it’s often an easy fix. In this article, we’ll guide you through some simple steps to get your DVD tray sliding smoothly again.

Unplug and Reset

The first step is to unplug your DVD recorder and disconnect it from your TV. Allow the recorder to sit for a few minutes, then turn it back on and reconnect it. This hard reset can often resolve problems and get your DVD tray working again.

Check the Tray Guides

If the reset doesn’t work, take a closer look at the tray itself. Open the tray and use a cotton swab dipped in penetrating oil to lubricate the tray guides, both on the top and underneath. This will help keep the tray sliding smoothly. Wipe up any excess oil and gently push the tray back into place.

Replace the Drive Belt

If the tray still doesn’t open easily, the problem may be a worn or broken drive belt. Remove the cover of your DVD recorder and locate the belt, which should be under the tray on the left. If the belt is loose, worn, or missing, you’ll need to replace it.

Take the old belt or a piece of string that fits where the belt should be to your local hardware store. Purchase a rubber o-ring in a slightly smaller size than your old belt or string. Put the new o-ring where the belt should go, and gently stretch it if needed to ensure a snug fit.

With the new belt in place, reattach the cover, making sure all the plastic tabs line up with their respective slots. Replace all the screws, and your DVD recorder should be good as new.
