Can You Repair Weapons in Breath of the Wild?

In the vast and immersive world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players must adapt to a unique combat system that revolves around the durability of weapons. Unlike previous entries in the series, where Link’s trusty sword and shield remained constant companions, Breath of the Wild introduces a more dynamic and challenging approach to combat.

The Inability to Repair Most Weapons

One of the most notable aspects of Breath of the Wild’s combat system is the inability to repair most weapons. As players explore the world, they will come across a wide variety of weapons, from swords and spears to bows and clubs. However, these weapons are not indestructible and will eventually break after a certain number of uses.

This mechanic encourages players to strategize their combat approach, as they must carefully consider which weapons to use against specific enemies. It also adds a sense of urgency to exploration, as players are constantly on the lookout for new and powerful weapons to replace their broken ones.

Exceptions to the Rule

While most weapons in Breath of the Wild cannot be repaired, there are a few exceptions to this rule:

  • The Lightscale Trident and Ceremonial Trident, obtained from the Zora Domain, can be repaired by the Zora blacksmith, Dento, using a Zora Spear and Flint. The Lightscale Trident also requires a Diamond for repair.
  • The Hylian Shield, considered the best shield in the game, cannot be repaired but can be purchased again from the hidden merchant, Granté, in Tarrey Town for 3,000 Rupees.
  • The Master Sword, a legendary weapon, does not break but instead loses energy. Once depleted, the Master Sword will recharge in Link’s inventory for about ten real-world minutes.

These exceptions provide players with a few reliable weapons that can be maintained throughout their journey, while still encouraging them to explore and experiment with the vast array of breakable weapons scattered across Hyrule.
