In the popular action role-playing game Dark Souls, players can upgrade their weapons using various materials and methods. One unique type of upgrade is the Crystal Upgrade, which transforms a weapon into a Crystal Weapon. However, Crystal Weapons have a unique characteristic that sets them apart from other upgraded weapons: their durability cannot be repaired.
Crystal Weapon Durability and Upgrading
Crystal Weapons have a limited maximum durability, typically around 20 points. As the weapon is used in combat, its durability decreases. Unlike regular weapons, Crystal Weapons cannot be repaired by blacksmiths or through the use of Repair Powder or Repair Spell. The only way to restore the durability of a Crystal Weapon is by upgrading it at a blacksmith.
However, this method of restoring durability has its limitations. Crystal Weapons can only be upgraded to a maximum of 5. Once a Crystal Weapon reaches its maximum upgrade level, any further upgrading will not restore its durability. Additionally, if a Crystal Weapon’s durability reaches zero, it will break and become unusable, even if it has not reached its maximum upgrade level.
Implications of Crystal Weapon Durability
The inability to repair Crystal Weapons means that players must carefully consider when to use them. Crystal Weapons are often powerful and effective, but their limited durability can make them impractical for prolonged use. Players may find themselves in a situation where they need to switch to a different weapon once their Crystal Weapon’s durability runs low.
To mitigate the impact of Crystal Weapon durability, players may choose to keep a backup non-Crystal Weapon or have multiple Crystal Weapons of the same type. This allows them to switch between weapons as needed, ensuring they always have a functional weapon available.
