Dealing with deep scratches on metal surfaces can be frustrating, but with the right techniques and materials, you can effectively repair them and restore the shine. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of repairing deep scratches in metal, step by step.
Gather the Necessary Materials
Before you begin, make sure you have the following items on hand:
Microfiber cloths
Mineral oil, vegetable oil, or olive oil
Fine-grit sandpaper (600 grit or higher)
Stainless steel polish or cleaner (optional)
Assess the Damage and Prepare the Surface
Take a close look at the scratch and determine its depth. If it’s a deep scratch, you’ll need to use sandpaper to smooth it out before polishing.
Clean the surface thoroughly with a mild detergent and water to remove any dirt, grease, or debris. Dry the area completely with a clean microfiber cloth.
Sand the Scratch
If the scratch is deep, start with a coarse-grit sandpaper (400 grit or lower) and sand in the direction of the metal’s grain. Apply light pressure and work slowly to avoid creating additional scratches.

Buff the surface with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any excess oil or polish.
