How to Fix a Broken iPhone 5 Charging Port in 5 Easy Steps

If your iPhone 5’s charging port is damaged or not working properly, don’t worry – you can fix it yourself with a few simple tools and some patience. Here’s how:

1. Gather Your Tools

You’ll need a pentalobe screwdriver, a suction cup, a spudger or plastic pry tool, and a new replacement charging port assembly. You can find all of these on Amazon or at your local electronics store.

2. Disassemble Your iPhone

Remove the two pentalobe screws at the bottom of your iPhone 5
Use the suction cup to gently lift the screen and disconnect the digitizer and LCD cables
Disconnect the battery and remove the charging port assembly

3. Install the New Charging Port

Carefully align the new charging port assembly and reconnect the cables
Reattach the battery and reassemble your iPhone in reverse order
Replace the pentalobe screws at the bottom

4. Test It Out

Plug in your charger and make sure the new charging port is working properly. If you’re still having issues, double check your connections.

5. Dispose of Old Parts Responsibly

Take your old charging port and any other e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler. Don’t throw it in the trash!
