To access Advanced Startup Options and use Startup Repair:
Entering the Advanced Startup Environment
Turn off your PC and wait a few seconds.
Turn your PC back on and immediately press and hold the power button until it turns off again (about 10 seconds). This forces your PC to restart.
Repeat steps 1-2 two more times. On the third restart, your PC should boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (winRE) and the Advanced Startup Options menu.
Select your language preferences and click Next.
On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.
Running Startup Repair
In the Troubleshoot menu, click Advanced options.
Click Startup Repair.
Select your Windows account and enter your account password if prompted.
Click Continue.
Startup Repair will now scan your PC for issues and attempt to automatically fix any problems preventing Windows from booting up. This process may take several minutes.
What Startup Repair Can Fix
Startup Repair can help resolve a variety of Windows startup issues, including:
Corrupted system files
Missing or damaged system files
Incorrect registry settings
Boot configuration data errors
Master boot record (MBR) issues
Master boot code (MBC) issues
However, Startup Repair cannot fix unbootable Windows PCs if:
The hard drive is damaged or failing
There are hardware issues like a faulty motherboard or RAM
The Windows installation is severely corrupted
If Startup Repair is unable to resolve your startup problems, you may need to try other troubleshooting steps like running System Restore, using System Image Recovery, or performing a clean Windows reinstallation.
Startup Repair Limitations
While Startup Repair is a powerful tool, it has some limitations:
It can only fix issues with the Windows operating system itself, not hardware problems.
It may not always be able to identify or resolve complex startup issues.
It cannot fix issues caused by malware, viruses, or other malicious software.
It cannot fix issues caused by incompatible or corrupted drivers or applications.
If Startup Repair fails to resolve your startup issues, you may need to try other troubleshooting steps or seek further assistance from Microsoft Support or a qualified computer technician.
